Traveling Trophy Rules

The VA CVMA® Traveling Trophy is a statewide challenge where chapters ride to other chapter meetings or sanctioned events to “capture” the trophy and bring it home. Throughout the year, chapters accumulate points based on member participation and miles traveled. The chapter with the highest combined score at the end of the challenge permanently wins the trophy.

Trophy Capture Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 chapter members must attend an event to qualify for a trophy grab.

  • Members may include Full Members (FM), Support Members (SUP), and Auxiliary (AUX).

  • When multiple chapters attend, the winner is determined by combined score:

    • Participation Percentage (members attending ÷ total chapter membership × 100)

    • Miles Traveled (distance from chapter flagpole to event location)

  • Final Score = Participation Percentage + Miles Traveled

Tie-Breaker

  • If chapters tie on the combined score, the trophy goes to the chapter that traveled the greater distance.

Event Location Rules

  • When a chapter holds the trophy, their next meeting or sanctioned event must be:

    • At the normal meeting rotation location, or

    • Within 25 miles of their chapter flagpole

Riding Requirement

  • Because CVMA® is a motorcycle association, members are expected to ride to events when possible.

  • Exceptions include:

    • Injury or surgery recovery

    • Medically retired members

    • Auxiliary members whose sponsors are deployed
(Deployment means out of the area for extended work duty.)

Notification Requirement

  • The chapter that captures the trophy must announce the next meeting or sanctioned event the same day the trophy is taken.

  • This announcement must include date, time, and location to allow other chapters time to organize rides.

  • Failure to notify the state chapters forfeits the trophy back to the previous chapter.

Event Participation

  • Visiting chapters must attend the entire meeting or event.

  • The purpose of the program is statewide camaraderie and chapter interaction, not just quick trophy grabs.

Reminder Notices

  • If there are 2–3 weeks until the next event, reminder emails will be sent the week prior.

Trophy Tracking

  • Chapters must notify the State Sergeant at Arms (SSAA) when they take possession of the trophy so mileage and captures can be tracked.

Courtesy to Host Chapters

  • Always contact the host chapter’s Commander before attending.

  • Some meetings require food planning and may only prepare for a limited number of attendees.

How the Trophy Winner Is Determined

  • Throughout the year, every capture contributes to the tracking statistics. At the Virginia State Meeting in September 2026, the trophy will be permanently awarded to the chapter that accumulated the highest combined participation and travel score while bringing the trophy home.
